The Otak Otak Place have been around for quite a while and there have been quite some review about the place. Despite some favorable reviews, it’s a place that eluded us until quite recently when we were running out of ideas to eat in TCM.
It’s quite an old skool setup, with an old bicycle at the front of the shop like a traditional 5 foot way of a shop.
They even have those old flask on display that I remembered that my grandma used to store hot water.
We were there slightly before lunch time and managed to get a place, but by lunch time, the place is already full with patrons!
With it’s name being Otak Otak, the must have would be of course the Otak Otak. I’ve like Otak Otak ever since my primary school days where they sell it at pasar malam. However, I like the southern ones better than the northern counterpart because it’s gooey there.
The Otak Otak is ok, but not the best I would say.
Roti Jala is pretty good as it’s a bit sweet and have a nice coconut-y fragrant. It’s already good enough to eat on it’s own without the accompanying curry chicken.
May ordered the Mee Rebus which turns out pretty good as well. I only managed to taste a bit because the soup contains peanuts, something different as the usual don’t normally have that.
My Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang is just average. I opted for white rice instead of the nasi lemak so there’s not much to say about the rice, however the Chicken Rendang and the Sambal were just average.
For a place that have a name called ‘Otak Otak’, I would thought that the otak otak would be the first thing that patrons will order but after tasting it, I think that it’s not a must to order. Their noodle dishes are still good though and I wouldn’t mind dropping by to eat the tasty Roti Jala and Mee Rebus.
