On the day where the whole world celebrate the kick off of World Cup, we decided to celebrate Jason’s birthday instead. I find it’s getting more challenging to organize group dinner as there’s only 6 of us at the end at Angus.
I have only tried Angus once (during a company dinner a few years back), but I can still remember how satisfying the dinner was. Since Jason is not a big fan of Japanese/Korean cuisine, I guess the next best thing would be to have western (although Angus does have some Japanese roots to it as well).
Angus Steakhouse/House, which ever name you want to call it have quite a simple menu. One can choose from a variety of parts of the cow, namely Tenderloin, Rib Eye, Sirloin, etc. For those who can’t take red meat (like me), you can also choose to have seafood (King Prawn, Salmon) and poultry as well. Order it ala carte, or a set which includes Hors d’œuvre, soup, salad as well as dessert depending on one’s preference.
Angus has quite a contemporary setting and a very quiet ambiance. Good for a small gathering or a romantic dinner.
The birthday boy treating us a bottle of Merlot (RM188).
Our Hors d’œuvre (which Lin and I had a difficult time trying to pronounce it right), is a hot dish of salmon in a quite refreshing mixed fruit salad.
As with all western restaurant, hot buns were served.
Potage Soup (that’s what the waitress told us), which I think is sort of like Potato with Cottage cheese soup. It’s pretty good and just nice and goes very well with the bun.
Cold Salad that comes with every set, done quite the Japanese way because of the sesame salad sauce.
After all the starter, soup and salad, the mains make their appearances. May ordered the most expensive steak of the night, which is Wagyu 200g (RM240), which averages out to about RM20 per bite.
It’s very juicy and literally melts in your mouth. For that kind of experience, I think it’s well worth the RM240.
Both Lin and Pat ordered Rib Eye Steak (250g and 200g respectively at RM119 and RM108). Yellow flag meant that the meat is Medium Rare.
The Rib Eye Steak sure looks bloody. Notice the details of the cutting knife, makes cutting 250g steak easier.
Lau’s Tenderloin 250g (RM125) is Medium Well, with a block of Butter Herb and a slice of lime to bring it the bestest taste from the beef.
Jason said that he always ordered Lamb at western restaurant, so no doubting him ordering the Lamb Rack (RM97).
4 pieces of Lamb Rack which I doubt is enough for me, but I guess Jason had a small stomach.
The most boring main course of the night would have to my Grilled Chicken (RM68). The price already tell you the difference right?
Most of the steak/lamb/chicken are served with a special kind of sauce (consist of Japanese soya sauce, Fuji apple, radish and mirin) and that makes a lot of difference compare to the one that we had at Jake’s Charbroiled Steak.
A picture of the guys before chowing their food.
Lin and Pat working on their steaks.
Dessert is served! Bite size Tiramisu decorated beautifully. Taste very good too!
It’s a very good dinner indeed and I’m glad the quality still remain as what I remembered it.
Total food bill come close to about RM1.1k, a bit steep with an average of RM200 per pax but it’s well worth the money although I think it will take another 2-3 years before we, or at least me to eat here again.

i think we ordered a penfold Koonunga shiraz 2007
@pat
Yup, sure was a great dinner! Will update the name of the wine on the blog…
Trust me the Wagyu beef was the best that i have ever had in my whole life!!!!
Definitely a must try . even though it is RM 20 per bite.
@MayMei
Finally you decided to write something here….
with that price, you should have gone to either Mandarin Grill at MO (if you have a MO card, there’s a discount) or you can have a good steak at Hakka Republic at RM120 (not Wagyu but US prime Rib)
@#$%^&…. RM188 for a bottle of Penfolds Koonunga Hill (2007)???
At today’s rate, it is about AUD$67 for that bottle of wine.
Probably can get 4 bottles or more for that price in here.
By the way, how does the wine taste like?
@eiling
Thanks for dropping by. I read that Mandarin Grill’s menu is also quite on the steep side, I can’t eat steak, so I can’t comment lar. Will heed yours next time.
@alex
Hey hey Alex! AUD67 is about 140-150 RM already lar…so I think it’s almost the same. I didn’t get to taste the wine, my gout attack is still around.
@alex, @jd, rm188 is aud67 at today’s rate already.
I think it is a good price already given we are in malaysia and it is not direct from estate..
Afterall, it is table wine class for some…
Hahaha
