Why you must be punctual for wedding dinners?

December 12, 2009

I want to ask a question. How many times have you turn up on a wedding dinner on the time that is stated on the invitation card? I think a lot of us is being brought up the Malaysian way and that is why do we need to be there so early, because everyone will be late, so everyone decided to be there at a later time, and normally it’s the invitation card’s time + 1 hour.

I for one, like to be on time. I have this uneasy feeling whenever I know that I am late, even though I know that if I arriving early, I might end up waiting for my friends to come.

So the most interesting thing happened last night when I was invited to a old school mate wedding dinner at Jaya One. I smsed the guys in the afternoon and asked them what time they will be at the wedding, so here are some of their replies.

Yam : Be there at 730PM.

Lai : Will leave the office at 630PM.

Jason : Will leave office at 7PM.

Lin : Reaching 8PM.

So by calculating their timings, I got out of my house about 645PM and reached the place about 730PM. And my friends being my friends, none of them are there yet. Jason got lost but he reached there about 735PM with Yam. Since the dinner is about to start, we proceed to our Table No 3, which already have a couple sitting there.

So we are seated quite comfortably with 2 seats remaining for Lai and Lin. But then came this couple, who conveniently sat on our table, although they are supposed to be on Table No 2. So Lin and Lai have no choice but to sit on the next table, that is strictly for vegetarian.

A couple of pictures of us before the dinner. Noticed the different colour of the table cloth, that is because Lin and Lai is seated at a very special table.

When we were eating this,

their version is this.

And while we were having our fish and suckling pig,

they had this as replacement (artificial prawn!)

Me being a really bad friend, console them that at least the vegetarian table is more expensive than the normal tables lar, so at least they got their angpow value for money. Hahaha!

Jokes aside, it’s quite an entertaining dinner, with Janet Lee, who’s the wedding singer for the night.

And I think both Lin and Lai were quite high after drinking orange squash!

We hanged around Brussels Beer Cafe after the dinner and saw this girl who looked like Amber Chia. Very tall and slim and being flanked by a lot of people. So I think it’s her lar. This time around, didn’t go and take picture lar, because it’s like so weird.

Anyways, back to the wedding incident, I think I will always be on time for the next wedding dinner that I will attend lar, so that I don’t end up sitting on the vegetarian table.
