1919 Restaurant @ Jalan Yap Kwan Seng
There are many hidden eateries located along the Jalan Yap Kwan Seng so sometimes it just takes a little effort to try as much as you can to unearth a hidden gem, and 1919 Restaurant can be considered one of them. Set in a very Peranakan/Nyonya deco, the restaurant is housed inside a double story bungalow, with ample seating for either small or big groups. Simple menu and classic tea cup, most of the dishes have some influence of Nyonya and Peranakan, with a slight twist of Thai too. Rice and noodle dishes are moderately price, and if you’re in a big group, you could always order a few dishes like in a Chinese restaurant. Nyonya Fried Rice (RM9.90), one of the recommended dish in the menu. It’s a different kind of fried rice, with a tinge of sweetness and full of wok hei, with bits of fried onions, egg and chicken meat. The portion is good enough for 2 person (if you’re a small eater). Salted Egg Chicken (RM16.90), a must order because it’s marinated so well with salted egg and fried to perfection. Each piece is crunchy and wrapped with generous portion of salted egg and goes well…
