Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant @ Pavilion

2 days back, May and I went for a movie date since we’ve been dying to watch The Avengers, and I booked 2 tickets to watch in at GSC Pavilion since it’s near her office. The movie starts at 615PM, so we haven’t got a chance to have dinner prior to the movie and seeing that there’s still some massive jam around that area, we decided to have dinner before heading home.

Been craving for some Japanese food and was thinking of heading to Sakae Sushi but the Pavilion outlet seems to be closed down so their replacement seem to be this place called Watami, with a tagline Japanese Casual Restaurant.

True enough the menu is pretty casual with a mixture of western and Japanese, because they even serve fries.

Looks like a good place for drinks too!

As appetizers, we ordered a plate of Yasai Tempura (RM12.90) which consist of 2 pieces of capsicum/aubergine/bamboo shoots and mushroom. Decently fried and crunchy and surely open up our appetite!

May’s still having allergies so she ordered something plain, Shoyu Ramen (RM19.90). Looks pretty decent but the soup is pretty salty.

Hence, it’s accompanied by a pot of flavourless chicken broth just in case you need to dilute the saltiness.

I ordered the Unagi Kamameshi (RM21.90) which basically a hotpot rice, something similar like claypot rice.

The condiments to be added in once the rice is cook.

IMG_0509

5 slices of Unagi is quite enough to satisfy my current crave. Fresh and nicely grilled.

20 minutes (or until the fire dies) are up, it’s time to add in all the stuffs and scramble it all together.

Before and after. I didn’t add in the Unagi as I like to eat it separately.

The Kamameshi is pretty alright, since we managed the cooking time, be wary of that sometimes you might get uncooked rice but mine seems to be alright. Inside the pot, there’s some mini mushroom and beancurd which concocted into a pretty decent meal.

Overall Watami, as the tagline goes is really a pretty casual restaurant and aside from ramen or hotpot rice, there’s pizzas and sushis as well. Pretty nice if you want to find something different from the conventional Japanese restaurant. Price wise, a bit on a higher side considering the serving portion and our total bill comes to RM68.75. So that’s a hundred bucks for a dinner and movie date, but we enjoyed every moment of it.

@malaysiacuisine

Yup, it’s indeed quite pricey. But Japanese food normally don’t come cheap also.
