It’s been pretty difficult to organize dinner with my bunch of friends, and we decided to just go ahead for our New Year’s Eve dinner at Benjis, a BBQ place in the famous Happy Mansion that house a number of other food joints like Food Foundry and previously the 6 to 8 Diner.
The place is already hanged with a ‘full’ sign by the time we were there, although we are pretty much the only customer there at that moment.
A very simple menu, consist of a few mains and some appetizers. One of the disappointment there was there’s limited amount of food that we can ordered, because it’s either it’s not available, or it’s finished.
The Mushroom soup (RM6.90) is plain and watery, if not mentioned I would’ve thought that it’s one of those canned soup.
The Spaghetti Bolognaise (RM14.90) is one of the item that I mentioned earlier that they could only serve 1 serving, because they ran out of bolognaise sauce. The taste it pretty standard, and nothing to shout about.
The Pork Wellington was something special, and something that I have always wanted to try since seeing Gordon Ramsey’s dish on TV. The only disappointment was the portion is too small especially for big eaters like us.
Pork sausages (RM24), I don’t think that there’s much to comment on sausages because generally there are good if grilled properly.
Jasmin was one of the diners that wanted to order the Spaghetti, but have to end up ordering the Grilled Chicken (RM16.50) instead. The piece of chicken is small compare to the price we pay. Again, nothing spectacular since even the gravy is ready made (as I noticed on their kitchen using Knorrs gravy).
I ordered the Pork Belly (RM24) and again I thought it was just so-so, since the same gravy is being used again. There’s also quite a number of area which is badly burned.
Rack of Pork Ribs (RM28), prepared the same as all the other dishes and use the same gravy as well.
I thought that this little BBQ place will serve the best BBQ stuff (since a lot of places that are small almost always have good food) but sadly this was not the case. For the price that we pay, I thought we could’ve eaten something better and bigger portion so for me, so it’s a lesson learnt.
You can still give it a try, but expect nothing.
