Kim Lian Kee @ Viva Mall

November 8, 2011

Kim Lian Kee, is famed with it’s Hokkien Mee. Their primary outlet in Petaling Street have been established since 1927, as indicated in their menu.

Their newest outlet is tuck in the newly re-renovate Viva Mall, formerly known as Plaza UE3. Since the mall is about 5 minutes drive from my shop, we head over for dinner one night since I need to stay in the shop to work over night.

I have never eat at the Petaling Street outlet at night, but I guess the crowd will more or less be the same on a Saturday night. We have to wait a good 15 minutes before we can get a table and quickly get on with our order and a lot of other side dishes were already sold out for the night.

Fried Mee Suah, full of ‘wok hei’ but a bit weird for a proper dinner. The mee suah is crunchy and it feels like eating mamee.

The Cantonese Fried is not bad too. The portion is only good for 1 person though.

Hokkien Mee, as good as the one in Petaling Street. Lards, prawns and squid…it’s pretty good.

Kim Lian Kee is definitely a nice addition around this part of town, but avoid weekends as the place is literally full of people and service can be a bit slow. And with the portion that they are serving, make sure to order more because we made the mistake of ordering too little and when we wanted to add more orders, you will go into the queue again and we ended up cancelling our order. Price wise it’s almost the same as their to outlets.

we went to VIva home and have a very bad lunch experience in KIM LIAN KEE RESTAURANT.
We waiter for so long for the food to be served and the food did not taste as good as claimed. The portion of the Hokkien mee is very small although we order the big portion. The worst is the watermelon juice. They charge us for RM4.90 per cup and the taste just like plain water. We call the waitress and told them but DISSAPOINTly all the waitress there are foreigner, i am not sure they act as if they dunt understand or they really cant understand what we said. they didnt even follow up our complain with their senior or person incharge of stall.
