Bypassing Ipoh, Lok Wee Koi Coffee Shop & Chin Han Guan Biscuit Shop

April 20, 2011

I was traveling up north last Monday for a meeting and was bypassing Ipoh for breakfast and for another meeting. Haven’t been to Ipoh for quite a while, the last I remembered it the time when we went up during CNY period and have to jam all the way back to KL.

Started our journey about 7AM and reached Ipoh about 9AM, just nice to have breakfast. Brought to this place called Lok Wee Koi Coffee Shop (Jalan Mustapha Al-Bakri) to try something special.

Instead of Ipoh White Coffee, I ordered this, Ice Cream Soda Float, something pretty special for breakfast.

The shop have quite a variety of stalls like Anson Chee Cheong Fun, Ipoh Hor Fun, etc but I settled for this, Dry Curry Laksa. Despite looking very ordinary, it actually tasted quite good.

Also comes with some Yong Tau Fu as well. At RM4.50, I think it’s a pretty decent meal.

I was told that the Hor Fun stall is also pretty good, but didn’t try it because of the prawns that is being used for the soup base.

Our next stop is a biscuit shop called Chin Han Guan located at Jalan Sultan Iskandar.

It’s specialty is the famed Pork Floss Lotus Paste Biscuit. The biscuit is baked to perfection with pork floss and lotus paste as fillings, definitely something special.

There’s other variation as well, with Pandan Lotus Paste and Lotus Paste with Egg Yolk. Price ranges from RM15.80 to RM21. They also come up with a new selection which is Pork Minced Meat with Lotus Paste, by the looks of the poster I think it will be very good too.

A very nostalgic setting of a biscuit shop. We were there too early and we only got the ones just the floss and lotus paste. The ones with the yolk have not been baked yet.

Wanted to take some photos of the biscuits but it’s already finished by the 2nd day in the house. I guess next time then.
