On iPad and Kindle

September 19, 2010

I have succumbed to the dark side and got myself an iPad. That’s almost like a week ago and the iPad seemed to be a better option compare to an iPhone 4.

I got it from a forumer of and it’s a 16G Wifi Singapore set as it’s not officially launch here at KL.

I initially wanted to get the 32G model but was told that it’s out of stock and the only choice I have is either the 16G or the 64G and the price is about RM1k difference. After much contemplation, I went with the entry model.

So aside of preparing to go to Taiwan, I have also been occupied with the iPad. Well, it’s like an iPhone, just that it’s almost 4 times bigger and more easier to use. Still thinking if I should bring it along to Taiwan.

I also ordered the Kindle 3 early last month as the price have plummet down to USD139 and it’s quite affordable e-reader compare to the ones being sold here locally. I thought that it would not make it for my Taiwan trip as the didn’t ship it out on the day it was launch (Aug 27th) but am glad that it got shipped out on the 2nd of Sep.

I use for shipping as the Kindle don’t ship direct to Malaysia so that takes a little bit of time but it’s worth every single cents. The shipping from Amazon to the vPost address at US is free, and I only need to pay SGD15 for shipping it to Malaysia, that’s quite a bargain.

The Kindle is ship in this hassle free box that Amazon is promoting, where you just need to pull this on the box and it will easily open up.

The moment I open the box, I’m actually quite surprise that the Kindle is smaller that I imagined it to be. It’s as big as a paperback novel and actually half the size of the iPad and weigh less than 500 gram.

Other things that comes in the box includes a US adaptor as well as an instruction booklet.

Don’t be mistaken that there’s a piece of paper on the screen, it’s actually the e-ink in the works. I’m amazed that it don’t feel electronic at all as the screen is almost paperback-like.

I’ve just purchased my 1st book via the Kindle and have been reading it since. You know there are sometimes that I regretted buying a piece of technology that I won’t be using it often but I think with both the iPad and Kindle, I don’t think I will ever leave them behind.
