Lunch & Dinner @ Plus One Shabu Shabu 1U

September 4, 2009

Whenever you are walking around 1 Utama, did you noticed the tv commercial where there’s some guys like so hungry that they turned to werewolf and then eating at this grill + steamboat shop? It’s quite prominent, so next time when you are they, be sure to look around. Unfortunately it’s not the restaurant that is highlighted today. The restaurant that is in the lime light today is…

Plus One Shabu Shabu, tucked somewhere in 1 Utama new wing, the floor below Shogun. The main theme here is steamboat. I am sure you would be saying, cheh, steamboat only mar….must be the same like the Korean BBQ or Coca. Well, it’s actually very different.

Firstly, you get to choose like a dozen different kinds of soup like,

Papaya and Fungus Soup, Pig’s Stomach Black Pepper Soup, Sze Chuan Spicy Soup and Pork Bone Soup. It’s actually up to your preference what kind of soup you like. The Pork Bone Soup is really good. The Sze Chuan and Black Pepper soup is not bad either. So I am sure one will need a couple of visit before able to finish trying all their soup variety.

Next it to choose the set that you want. It ranges from pork loin to fish to meat balls to abalone. Price will be depending on what kind of set you select. This post is actually a combination of 2 visit.

The 1st visit, we ordered these.

Meat ball set and pork loin set. The one is the middle is sort of like the standard set.

The 2nd visit, we ordered these.

Almost the same thing plus a sliced fish set (which is quite fresh!)

They do promotions for lunch set hence you will noticed that the pork loin and the meatball is slightly lesser compare to our 1st visit. Anyway, it’s RM10 cheaper so that do justify it.

Another unique thing with this place is there are numerous sauce that you can choose. Ranging from the standard chilli padi and sweet sauce to the more oriental type like Hawaiian Sauce, Satay Sauce, Black Pepper Sauce, etc. So you can actually pick and choose what you like. My personal favourite is their black pepper sauce.

Overall it’s a relatively new experience and different from the average steamboat shop. Price-wise it’s quite competitive plus you get to enjoy the soup that you like. Lunch sets are affordable starting from RM19.90, while there’s no dinner set, you get to order from the menu from as low as RM20 and above.

They are having 15% discounts for Hong Leong Bank Credit Cardmembers provided that your bill is over RM100. So if you are tired of Italianese or KFC or McD at 1U, then you can give this place a try.
